The Youth Ministry Internship (YMI) is part game night, part cultural exchange, part Bible study and part leadership training – an uncommon mix of activities, but an exciting ministry for teens in RI and nearby MA. YMI meets on Saturday evenings from 5:30 to 8 at Faith and Hope Baptist Church in South Providence. This parent-directed, student-led group is overseen by Godspeed Fellowship and The Philip Center.
YMI is designed to function on two levels. At one level, YMI is a youth group – a place for teens to grow together in Christ and in a knowledge of God’s Word, while actively serving, reaching out and having fun with new and old friends. YMI is the youth group for Godspeed.
At another level YMI serves as an incubator for future church leaders who gain practical and theoretical knowledge of what is required to serve and lead in ministry. More than just “surviving” as Christians through their teen years, we want our students to understand the significant contribution they can make to the kingdom of God, and what it means to be responsible for service and leadership in the church.
Godspeed Fellowship provides elder oversight and insurance coverage for YMI, while The Philip Center gives direction and weekly oversight for YMI activities. YMI depends heavily on the volunteer help of the parents of students who participate.
YMI is blessed by the friendship of many Nepali/Bhutanese friends who live in the area of Faith and Hope Baptist Church. Our weekly Saturday night meetings are full of fun between our two cultures, often involving games that help us understand and know each other better; we nearly ALWAYS have ping-pong and air hockey games. We also eat pizza, sing, share our high- and low-spots of the week, and study the Bible together. We also celebrate one another’s holidays, like Deewali and Thanksgiving.
Come check out YMI! We’d love to have you.
